International World Changers Making a Difference in Barbados

Rick and Cindy J., missionaries in Barbados, are praising God for the wonderful week of events with the students from International World Changers. Cindy highlights the following pictures and stories to describe how God used these workers to His glory.

"I am very excited to share with you about our wonderful week of World Changers, yet I am also struggling with how to do so in a clear, concise, way because we saw God do SO many things! We are giving Him so much praise because He truly answered all of the prayers for the week.

PRAISES:

We certainly give thanks to ALL the wonderful team members who worked SO hard to make this week happen.

Ministry teams:

Four of the teams went into primary schools where they did recreation with the children and also assisted in the classroom. It really depended on what the teachers wanted or needed each day. We think this is VERY important because the children get acquainted with teenagers who have an active faith and a daily walk with God. They are such great role models!!

In addition to working with children, several teams joined together to paint two buildings of Society Primary School – inside and out, plus the principal's office! A giant task but they finished it completely.

Two teams did walking evangelism and on Wednesday night led youth services in two local Baptist churches.

The teams were wonderful testimonies for Jesus Christ both on the streets, and in the schools and college. Each team worked HARD all week and gave their absolute best!

At our final worship service, we praised God that the Gospel was shared in Barbados 515 times, 150 individuals prayed to receive Christ ,and $1,083.60 was raised for missions. We praise God and give Him the glory for everything He did through His people!

REQUESTS:

  • Wednesday, June 24 -our student team will travel to St. Vincent to help prepare for aweek of World Changers.
  • Saturday, June 27 -all the World Changers will arrive in St. Vincent. Please pray for the team leaders Daniel and Lynn, our team of Ashlei, Katie, Ian and Reed, and our IMB missionaries, John and Barbara Randolph.
  • Saturday, June 27- two very wonderful young men, Cole and Ryan, will arrive in Barbados to work for three weeks. Pray for God to use them in a mighty way.

Thank you for the HUGE part you had in this week by praying for it so faithfully!"

Blessings,

Cindy and Rick J.

International World Changers Prepare for Summer Missions

Rick and Cindy J., resident missionaries of Barbados, are gearing up for the student volunteers to arrive this summer for International World Changers. Below are their specific prayer requests for the upcoming weeks.

June 6 - "Our four summer missionaries travel to Barbados. Katie, Ashlei, Reed and Ian will be helping us with World Changers both here and in St. Vincent and will do follow up. We learned from last year how crucial it is to include time for that!"

June 11 – "Our World Changers leaders, Pat and Chad, along with our cooks, Chris and Beverly arrive. Without these four, this week could never happen. Please pray for them as they do some intense preparation for the week!"

June 13 – "Around 70 World Changers arrive in Barbados to "endeavor to bring people to Jesus Christ" and take part in the harvest here. Please pray for them as they prepare and as they travel to and from the island. Pray for safety and good health during their week here. Ask God for many divine appointments and opportunities to share Christ! May we all be committed to use our energy and gifts and time to see more people come to know our wonderful Lord and Savior!"

Thank you for supporting Rick and Cindy and their ministry through prayer. We appreciate you viewing this blog and your interest in following the journey of the International World Changers.

Expect great things!

Cindy J. wrote the following report from Barbados:

"It is that time again when the International World Changers sends out its leadership teams to plan for summer of 2009! Rick and Cindy J. feel very blessed to have Patrick and Chad to lead in Barbados during the week of June 13 - 20. We are expecting 86 young people with their adult sponsors to move into the Barbados Baptist College for that week and allow God to change this island through them. The participants for the International World Changers will be coming from seven churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, and New Mexico.

During a recent trip to Barbados, the team met with pastors of various Baptist churches to see if they would like a ministry team to work with their congregation. The four pictured here were very excited about the possibilities.

Patrick was invited to preach at First National Baptist and he brought a very inspirational message. Chad has a wonderful heart for serving people. Both of these young men are dedicated to serving Christ and we know God is going to use them in a mighty way in Barbados!"

May God find his workers hearts filled with joy in their humble service to Him.

PRAYERWALKING MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Two women from North Georgia traveled to Barbados to prayerwalk for the region and for the island. Both women commented that IMB missionary Cindy J., (center) who lives on the island with her husband, Rick, has a sweet Christian spirit. Cindy graciously gave the women tours throughout the areas of Barbados so they could visit Baptist churches, the Anglican Seminary, the Baptist College, the University of the West Indies, and many residential and business areas.

As the women traveled, they discussed ministry options, and the groups who could possibly travel to Barbados to implement these ministries. Many smiles and conversations took place between the women and Bajan people. One day they traveled through the rains that were washing through the streets and flooding the foundations of the homes. Many young people were in on the streets looking for something to fill their time. The men occupied the rum businesses. The Baptist churches they visited were small in attendance but dedicated to their purpose.

Joyce and Brenda's prayers were specific. They prayed God would open the hearts of the people so they would be receptive to Him. They asked for God's divine hand on Rick and Cindy's ministries. They prayed for Rick's trip to the US as he visited the churches and colleges who will visit Barbados for special ministries beginning in March. They sought guidance from God for these groups as they prepare for their trips to Barbados to work among the people. During their evening devotions, Joyce and Brenda asked God for clear direction, as to possible ministries for the people, and for Him to take their thoughts and use them in an active way.

Joyce replied, "Being there and praying as a team was meaningful and strengthened our Christian lives here at home. Barbados is such a beautiful place created by God - a place where one felt so close to God."

World Changers- Building Relationships for God

A young man in Barbados was riding his bicycle past a crew of students who were doing walking evangelism for World Changers International. Kevin, a student volunteer, called out to the man and asked him if he could see his bicycle. The young man accepted the invitation and stopped to meet the World Changers crew.

The students continued to evangelize neighborhoods and the young man (Akeem) decided to follow…listening to the things that the students shared. When the crew stopped at a park, Katie, a volunteer, was conversing with Akeem and found out that his mother had died. She knew Kevin had also lost his mother, so she asked Akeem if he would like to talk with him. When Akeem heard Kevin explain God's plan for his life, he decided to invite Jesus into his heart and to follow Him! Isn't it wonderful how God used the entire World Changers crew for His glory and for His purpose!

The students highlighted in this story worked under the direction of missionaries Rick and Cindy Jenkins. To read more about how God used them in Barbados, log on to Cindy's blog at http://weblog.xanga.com/cindyajenkins

International World Changers (IWC) offers youth and youth groups the opportunity for a hands-on mission experience. The International Mission Board, in cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention, sponsors this ministry.
